Hosta 'Abiqua Drinking Gourd' (Walden West 87) LARGE (24" high by 48" wide.) Near white flowers on 24" scapes. Leaves are thick, rich dark blue, deeply cupped and heavily corrugated. In fact, no other hosta boasts such deeply cupped leaves. Depth of the leaf cupping can be up to 4" and the powdery gray underside of the leaves is often visible because of the cupping. Named so, because a dog was seen drinking water from one of the leaves. Light to full shade. Slug resistant.

Hosta 'Alligator Alley' NEW 2013 (Walters Gardens) MEDIUM 18" high by 36" wide. Aptly named, this medium to large sized hosta forms a coarsely textured mound of leathery, puckered, heart-shaped to round leaves of good substance. It is a wide-margined sport of the long-popular Dick Ward, which is named for one of the most accomplished Hosta breeders in the US. Its leaves display wide, blue-green margins with chartreuse centers that become yellow in summer. Near-white flowers appear atop chartreuse scapes in early summer.

Hosta 'Almost Heaven' NEW 2013 MEDIUM 15" high by 30" wide. This is a cool hosta from Doug Beilstein! Hosta 'Andrew' (Hans Hansen) NEW 2013 MEDIUM 21" high by 32" wide. This unique tricolor hosta forms a medium to large sized, upright mound of leaves that have a lot of character: they are corrugated, puckered, folded, and ruffled at the base. Glaucous blue-green, rounded leaves have a showy wide, feathery, white center with green jetting between the center and margin. The white coloring extends all the way down the leaf petiole and up the flower scapes which carry pale lavender flowers in early to midsummer.

Autumn Frost is a sport of the 2010 Hosta of the Year, First Frost, which in turn is a sport of the champion of blue hostas, Halcyon. It is a showier version of First Frost, displaying extra wide margins. The leaves emerge frosty blue with a bright yellow margin that lightens to creamy white during the summer. Hosta 'Blueberry Cobbler' (Solberg 2009) (Iwa X Blue Blush) DWARF (7" high by 18" wide) This is a rare September flowering frosty blue hosta with some purple on the petioles. It is really a very nice little blue H. longipes with little pale lavender flowers whose tiny petals recurve delicately. Our best long season blue to date and it grows well.

Hosta 'Cathedral Windows' MEDIUM (19" high by 34" wide) Improving on his award winning hybrid Stained Glass, this new selection from Hans Hansen is a large, tetraploid conversion. Like a brighter version of Holy Mole, Cathedral Windows quickly forms a large clump of rounded, bright gold leaves with very wide, dark green margins. As the leaves mature, they become dome-shaped. Large, fragrant, near-white flowers are produced well above the foliage in late summer.

Red pigment is concentrated in the lower part of the petioles, but continues in a narrow strip up the center of the back of each leaf. The clump is accented by attractive purple flowers which are held on striking red scapes in mid to late summer. Its diminutive size makes this hosta an excellent choice for growing in troughs.

Hosta 'Corn Belt' promises to be one of the more stunning hostas to enter the market recently. This sport of H. 'Jimmy Crack Corn' (all gold) adds a wide green margin to this already stunning clump. Hosta 'Craker Crumbs' (R. Solberg, 2002) DWARF (7" high by 15" wide.) Looking for a new miniature hosta for that special spot in the garden or to jazz up a trough of other minis? 'Cracker Crumbs', introduced at the 2002 AHS Convention in Spokane, WA in June, has bright shiny, gold leaves with a shiny, dark margin that looks painted on. Like it's parent, 'Shiny Penny', the color becomes chartreuse, almost coppery in summer's heat. It has great substance and makes a tight, fast growing mound. Nice lavender flowers in mid-summer.

I will add that the agave-looking leaves are stiff as a board and you can see that award winning 'Curly Fries' is the most unique hosta to be introduced in some time. Best grown in half a day of sun, its highly ruffled narrow leaves emerge yellow and then fade to near white. The scape is deep purple, topped with lavender flowers.
